OUR DENOMINATION
Our Denomination
Our church is a member of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRC), a historic Protestant denomination rooted in the Reformed tradition.
The CRC was established in 1857 by Dutch immigrants seeking to remain faithful to historic Reformed doctrine and practice. Today the CRC has congregations across the United States and Canada, with about 300,000 members in approximately 1,000 congregations. “What the CRC Believes”
The CRC is grounded in the Bible as the inspired and authoritative Word of God. Our teaching is shaped by historic Reformed confessions such as:
The Heidelberg Catechism
The Belgic Confession
The Canons of Dort
In addition, the CRC affirms the historic ecumenical creeds of the Christian church:
The Apostle’s Creed
The Nicene Creed
The Athanasian Creed
These documents summarize what we believe about God, salvation, the church, and the Christian life. At the heart of our faith is the good news that we are saved by grace alone, through faith along, in Christ alone. "Our Theology”
As a Reformed denomination, the CRC emphasizes:
The sovereignty of God over all things
Salvation as a work of God’s grace from beginning to end
The authority of Scripture in all matters of faith and life
The call to live every part of life for God’s glory.
“How We Are Governed”
The CRC follows a Presbyterian form of church government, meaning churches are led not only locally, but also in cooperation with other churches.
Local Churches (Council): Each congregation is led by elders and deacons who oversee teaching, pastoral care, and ministry
Classis: Neighboring churches are grouped into a regional body called a classis. Churches send representatives (pastors, elders, and deacons) to meet regularly for mutual support, accountability, and decision-making.d
Synod: The broadest assembly is called synod, which meets annually. Delegates from each classis gather to make decisions that affect the whole denomination, including doctrine, ministry priorities, and denominational policies.
