WHAT TO EXPECT

WHAT TO EXPECT

At First Artesia, we understand that it can be a little scary to visit a new church and meet new people, especially when you have no idea what is going to happen. This page is meant to help remove that fear of the unknown by answering some common questions new visitors might have!

We are located at 18411 Alburtis Ave,

Artesia, CA.

We have two Sunday worship services, 9:30AM and 6:00PM

Please note: Our two services are not the same. In the reformed faith, we believe in upholding the 4th Commandment, which calls us to keep the Sabbath holy. We do that by beginning and ending our day in worship. Ideally, this means members are attending both services, so each service is unique in its liturgy and sermon. But don’t feel bad if you are unable to make it to both services. We understand life can get busy! Each service typically lasts around 75 minutes.

ARRIVAL

  • When you arrive at our campus, feel free to park in any open parking spot!

  • What to wear? - Most of our congregants wear business casual/cocktail attire in the mornings and more casual attire in the evenings. Nonetheless, please wear whatever is most comfortable for you!

  • You’ll notice our Welcome Table set up near the front doors. Our Welcome Team will be ready to greet you and chat with you. Feel free to have any of the goodies they have on their table!

  • When you enter our building, you’ll also be greeted by one of our Elder and Deacon teams. Our Elders and Deacons rotate each Sunday taking turns greeting so that our members and visitors can get familiar with the church’s leaders!

  • Once you enter the Sanctuary, feel free to sit anywhere that you would like! Our congregation is very welcoming of new visitors, so don’t be surprised if a few of them walk up to say hi and chat before the service begins!

LITURGY

You may be asking yourself “what is a liturgy?”. Don’t worry if you don’t know what that means! A liturgy is simply the order and pattern of our worship service. Think of it like a rhythm or flow, where the service follows a thoughtful structure to help guide people through worship in a clear and intentional way.

LIVESTREAM

If you want to check out our services before deciding to visit us, you can view our past livestreams on our YouTube channel.

Our livestreams for the current service typically go live about 5 to 10 minutes before the start of a service.

Our YouTube channel also posts the sermons for each service as separate videos in case you want to hear just the sermon without surfing through a previous livestream.

CHILDREN

At First Artesia, we’re all about being welcoming to families! We believe all children are a blessing from the Lord, and that families should be able to attend church with the children included!

Your little ones are more than welcome to remain in the main service for its entirety, we are very kid friendly!

However, if you did want child care, our church offers Nursery for children 3 and under. You may drop them off right before service and pick them up after.

During the school year (depending on demand), we also offer Children in Worship for children ages 3 to 6. Halfway through the main service, children will be excused to join a more age appropriate Bible lesson. They may be picked up after the main service ends.

These options are available and free for parents interested, however you have no obligation to utilize them.

COFFEE & FELLOWSHIP

After the morning service ends, we head over to the FAC (the big gymnasium building) for a time of fellowship. Each week we have volunteers who brew coffee and bring snacks and treats for everyone. We believe that being a Christian is more than just attending a church service, but it’s about living out the faith, especially with fellow believers. We encourage visitors to join us so they can fellowship with members, ask questions, and be part of God’s covenant community.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

First Artesia also offers various Sunday morning classes for people interested in receiving additional instruction and information about our theology and tradition. Be sure to check the bulletin for the classes available that day.

The Adult Sunday School meets shortly after morning service ends (around 11:15am) in the Social Hall (room behind the Sanctuary). In the Adult Sunday School, members can ask questions about that morning’s sermon or other topics relevant to Christianity, led by Pastor Rob. This class is more of an open discussion where anyone can voice their opinions and discuss the question at hand.

Youth Sunday School also meets shortly after morning service on the 2nd Floor of the FAC. In the Youth class, young Christians are taught more about Jesus Christ in an age-appropriate style and are taught about the Creeds and Confessions of the Christian Reformed Church.
